Introducing Lisbon Falls Chiropractor Dr. Tyson E. Shardlow

My journey into the chiropractic profession started long before my decision to pursue a professional degree program. As a healthy young boy who was active in sports, it was a surprise for my family and I when I suffered a sudden back injury at the age of 13 while at baseball batting practice. The severity of the injury progressed in just a few short days and it quickly became difficult to walk, stand, sit or even lie down. At first the injury to my lower lumbar spine was treated with over-the-counter pain medication, which did not produce any relief. Soon after, I went to my family medical doctor for a professional consultation. I was prescribed heavy medication which only covered up my symptoms while the side effects prevented me from engaging in my studies and extracurricular activities. After nearly two months of suffering with my condition, and seeing no positive results, my medical doctor referred me to see a surgeon for potential surgical intervention. Fortunately, my parents decided at that time to take me to see a chiropractor on the advice of a family friend. Given that no other form of therapy had worked for me, I was pleasantly amazed at the results I found from conservative chiropractic care. After only six weeks of therapy I was nearly symptom-free and eventually went on to continue my active lifestyle in sports participating in varsity football, track, baseball, and martial arts. It was from these experiences that I found my interest in the chiropractic scope of practice.
As a Maine native, I am proud to provide my professional skills for the communities of Androscoggin County. Born in Augusta, I grew up in Gardiner and received my high school diploma from Livermore Falls High School in 1996. After a year of working as a deckhand on a large passenger sailboat, I went on to college where I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Maine at Orono in a 3-year accelerated pre-med program. I continued on to receive my doctorate in December 2003 after completing my professional studies at New York Chiropractic College, one of the nation’s top schools for chiropractic studies.
I currently live in Auburn, Maine and am happily married to my wife, Elizabeth. In October of 2006 we welcomed our son Rory into the world after a very short, peaceful, natural birth. In July of 2009 we welcomed our second son, Ryder in a wonderful home birth. Together Elizabeth and I have made family life a priority and we often enjoy weekend day trips to the Maine coast and visiting with our parents who also live here in Maine. We are members of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Gardiner, where I have attended church since I was an infant.
I strive to offer my patients means to help them achieve overall health, not just acute pain management. Chiropractic goes far beyond back pain, neck pain, and headaches – chiropractic is a natural, straightforward, cost-effective, and powerful tool for lifelong wellness care benefiting people of all ages, from the unborn child to the elderly. It is the vision of Atlas Family Chiropractic to go beyond acute care and empower patients to make chiropractic part of their lifelong commitment to wellness and healthy living.
